Aqua Biologics
of Canada, Ltd. was founded as the Canadian based subsidiary of
Aqua Biologics, Inc. Canada is recognized worldwide
as a leader in aquaculture development and production.
Recently, the provincial government of British Columbia
recommended that all of British Columbia’s ocean
based salmon farms be converted to closed containment
systems, such as Aqua-Sphere™,
within a five year period. A similar recommendation
was also issued by the U.S. National Organic Standards
Board, in which seafood raised in open net pens would
be excluded from being certified “organic”
under U.S. guidelines. This is a trend that will continue
to spread throughout the global aquaculture industry
over the next ten years. Aqua Biologics will be prepared
to provide the technology to meet these new regulations.
Aqua Biologics of Canada, Ltd. intends to establish
coldwater pilot operations with the eco-friendly,
closed containment system, Aqua-Sphere™. British
Columbia's salmon farming industry, estimated at close
to $500 million/year, is being urged by the British
Columbia government to transition from open net-cages
to closed containment systems such as the Aqua-Sphere™.
Canada has been a major producer of coldwater seafood
products for many years through its diversified fish
and shellfish farming operations on both coastlines.
New regulations have been proposed for future fish
farming operations in British Columbia, which may
significantly reduce or eliminate net pen operations,
and transition them to closed containment systems.
The Aqua-Sphere™ technology can play a significant
role in this transition, both economically and environmentally.
John Holder of British Columbia,
Canada has joined the Board of Directors of Aqua Biologics
of Canada, Ltd. Mr. Holder is a registered professional
biologist in the Province of British Columbia and
he graduated from the University of Guelph in 1973.
He has had extensive experience with land based and
ocean production systems for salmon, and has provided
his expertise to the salmon and aquaculture industry
for over 30 years. He is on the advisory board of
Hatchery Magazine, a past director of the Aquaculture
Association of Canada as well as a contributing writer
to Northern Aquaculture. He has worked and consulted
for aquaculture companies in six continents and he
has his own consulting firm, JLH Consulting, Inc.
